A new study found that women who travel over 50 miles to work daily have an increased risk of a low birth weight. This information comes after the Economics and Human Biology Journal performed a study that found stress overall can cause a low birth weight and that women who commute have a 14% higher probability of complications during birth. “The finding that low birth weight might be associated with a source of stress, like long-distance commuting, is some what expected since chronic strain has been found to be linked to adverse birth outcomes,” said Muzhe Yang, Associate Professor at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania.
