In summer of 2018, the entire world burst into joy when they found out that there was a new Royal baby on the way. Here, we take a look at just how Meghan Markle is coping with pregnancy, how her sister-in-law Kate Middleton feels about it all, and just what royal title their child will have.

Because Markle is over the age of 35 there is an increased risk for complications during the pregnancy including preeclampsia (hypertension) and gestational diabetes. The actresses pregnancy has been classified as ‘geriatric’, which refers to any women over the age of 35 who is pregnant. It is very common in this day and age for women to have children older, in fact, every year the rate of pregnant women over 30 increases. With the increased risk, many have wondered if it is safe for Meghan to perform her royal tour duties and fly. If deemed safe by her personal doctor, the actress should have the okay to fly until late into her pregnancy.

But it’s not all bad, in fact, Meghan’s sister in law Kate Middleton stated that so far her pregnancy has been comfortable and easy even during her many travels. While on a visit to Leicester the Duchess of Cambridge stated she was super excited for her sister in law. “It’s such a special time to have little kiddies,” Middleton said. “So it’ll be really special.” The Duchess of Cambridge has three children herself: Charlotte, George, and Louis.

So what will the title of the new royal baby have? The baby, due sometime this spring, will either be a dukedom (if born male) and a duchess (if born female) though it’s a little more complex for the female. If the child is born female, she will only be considered an official duchess if she also marries a duke herself. In the past, sons would always take precedents over daughters in succession to the throne, with changes only made recently to allow any first born, male or female, to lead top succession to be King or Queen.
